Off the field with Donavan...
Donavan is very active in his Cartersville, GA community. He participates in the Big Brother/Big Sister mentoring program at Cartersville Middle School where he goes to the school and spends time with his mentees. During this time, Donavan does everything from helping his mentees with their school work to talking to them and giving advice on school, friends and sports. He hopes that his work with this program will make a difference in the lives of his mentees. At Christmas time, he volunteers with the Secret Santa program at his local Children's Shelter. Though Donavan has never volunteered specifically with a Children's Hospital, he is looking forward to the opportunity to visit one during the Aflac All-American game week. When not helping out in his community, Donavan can usually be found playing video games, playing baseball or football with friends, spending time with his family or watching sports programs.
Family ties...
Donavan is recognized as a top player nationally in both football and baseball and comes from an athletic background. His father, Lars Tate, was an All-American in football at the University of Georgia who then went on to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and finished his career with the Chicago Bears. Donavan has been recruited by some of the top baseball programs in the country, including Texas, USC (Southern California) and Georgia.
