Aflac's passion and commitment to treating and finding a cure for pediatric cancer makes this year's partnership with the Rady Children's Hospital a perfect fit. Aflac and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta established the Aflac Cancer Center in 1995 when Aflac made a $3 million dollar donation and a pledge to help fight pediatric cancer. To date, Aflac has contributed over $40 million to the Aflac Cancer Center.
Rady Children’s is San Diego’s only hospital dedicated exclusively to pediatric care, providing care to more than 143,000 sick or injured kids every year. Rady Children's offers a full spectrum of superior medical services with experts in 35 pediatric sub-specialties - both within the many buildings of its Kearny Mesa facility and through more than 33 clinics and neighborhood centers throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties. Last year, Rady Children’s treated 14,354 inpatients and had 215,542 outpatient and specialty-clinic visits. Our Mission is to restore, sustain and enhance the health and developmental potential of children through patient care, education, research and advocacy.
Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders
Last year, 145 new patients were diagnosed with cancer at our Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. We continued to care for 840 patients through our inpatient and outpatient services. There were 13,921 outpatient visits to the Carley Copley Hematology/Oncology Clinic; more than half of those visits (7,077) were for chemotherapy and other infusion treatments. Rady Children’s Hematology/Oncology Care Center is the region’s only facility for pediatric bone marrow transplant and pediatric stem cell transplantation. Last year, 7 children had bone marrow transplants. In our new Patient Care Pavilion the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders will feature 38 private rooms with advanced air filtering equipment, 12 outpatient exam rooms, as well as treatment and procedure rooms.
Thank you Aflac for helping us to ensure that our Hematology/Oncology patients receive the best quality medical care and that psychosocial services are available for the whole family.

Giving back to the community is an everyday part of what we do at Aflac. We've passionately supported the fight against childhood cancer for more than 12 years and are thrilled to extend our reach by teaming up with ThinkCure
Over our philanthropic history, the extended Aflac family has given more than $40 million to childhood cancer through our relationship with the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Recognized by Child magazine as one of the top five childhood cancer centers in the country, the Aflac Cancer Center is a national leader among childhood cancer, hematology, and blood and bone marrow transplant programs, and treats more than 300 newly diagnosed cancer patients and over 1,000 sickle cell patients each year. No relationship has been more meaningful to Aflac than the one with the Aflac Cancer Center.
The sale of Aflac plush Ducks provides ongoing financial resources in the fight against childhood cancer. Since 2000, we have donated proceeds from the sale of more than 74,000 plush ducks to the Aflac Cancer Center. We also partnered with Macy's department stores for the seventh consecutive holiday season to sell special limited-edition Aflac Holiday Ducks. Since the Aflac Holiday Duck program began in 2001, the sale of these special limited-edition plush Aflac Holiday Ducks has raised more than $1.9 million for 34 hospitals around the country that treat children with cancer. And since 2003, the proceeds, totaling $525,000, from the Aflac All-American Baseball Game, a showcase of the best high school athletes, have been donated to children's hospitals and other pediatric cancer research organizations.
