Coach Manuel Hermosillo, a native of Tijuana, Mexico, comes from a long family tradition of baseball. In the 1940’s and 50’s, his grandfather played in Tijuana’s Amateur Baseball League, and when Coach Hermosillo was only 15 years old, he started playing in the league as well. He continued to play in the Tijuana Amateur League while finishing his studies at San Diego State University.

Coach Hermosillo, 57, began his coaching career in 1983 at Montgomery High School in San Diego and won his first of 17 league championships one year later. He has compiled more than 500 wins in his 26 seasons as the Aztec’s head coach, which ranks him 4th all-time in San Diego CIF history. During his tenure, he has won a CIF San Diego Section Division II Championship (2000) and has also been to five CIF finals (’91, ’94, ’00, ’06, ’08, ‘09). Coach Hermosillo is currently the president of the San Diego County Baseball Coaches Association.

He has been married to his wife Rosario for 34 years and they have two grown children, along with three grandchildren, Lily (5), Daniel (4 ½), and Adrian (2 ½).
